Magazine Writing

Rob has been writing for - and editing - magazines since 1981, mainly covering all aspects of home computing and currently writes regularly for Computeractive, Web User, IT Reviews and occasionally for Macworld. He's also written extensively about music and film for Q and EMPIRE. More recently, Rob's written general entertainment features for a number of in-flight magazines and is a contributor to Waterlog, the world’s finest angling magazine.

Rob's written more articles than he cares to remember on Windows, Windows programs and the Internet for a number of national newspapers, including The Observer and The Guardian, and had regular technology columns in the Daily Express and the London Evening Standard. He used to have a copy of Windows 1.0 on a floppy disk - but that’s another story...

Elsewhere, he writes a regular fishing blog which records every trip he makes - and occasionally, some that he doesn’t. If you'd like to know more about anything Rob has written - or would like him to write something for you - get in touch using the e-mail link at the bottom or by filling in the form on the Contacts page.

Copywriting

Rob Beattie's copywriting clients
Lost for words? Rob can breathe life into stodgy old copy that's lost its momentum and energise technical writing which has lost its mojo. Whether you need a tone that's friendly and informative or require something more measured and authoritative, good copy can do the trick - engaging readers and visitors, opening them up to what you've got to offer and converting that interest into solid leads and sales.

Rob's copywriting clients include Tesco Digital stores, the specialist electronics outlets that the company created to sell its TV, audio and computer products on the high street and Tesco Entertainment, its online music and video store. Rob wrote the copy for the Tesco Digital promotional booklet and all of the text for the Tesco Entertainment web site - including a substantial series of tutorials and online help.

The printed booklet was a solo writing project that involved working alongside a design agency to meet the brief. The music and video site was a much bigger job and Rob worked closely with both Tesco and a large creative and technical team at a London-based design agency over a period of six months.
